| Railway information sites |
| End of the Line |
Essential reading for anyone interested in British railway locomotives. Covers new locomotives, withdrawals, movements, operational pool
allocations, changes to workings etc. The latest news page is updated daily. |
| The North Wales Coast Railway |
Interesting in its own right but especially so because this area has been lucky enough to retain some locomotive-hauled passenger trains
long after they've disappeared elsewhere in Britain. The Noticeboard is usually updated at least weekly. |
| Class 37 Locomotive Group |
Includes information about the recent workings of Class 37 locomotives still in traffic, as well as the group's own machines. Essential
reading for anyone chasing these locomotives in their last years. Usually updated each evening with details of that day's workings, and
news of forthcoming events. |
| Class 47 List |
There aren't many Class 47s still active, but this site details recent workings and gives news of forthcoming events. |
| Journey planner |
Need to find out what service that unit you photographed was working, or look up a headcode? This site can provide that
information, and is a useful journey planner too. Type "rail station" where it asks for street/stop. |
| Railway photo sites |

DMOZ is a human-edited directory of websites. The link takes you directly to the railway photographs page. It lists sites
from all around the world, and each link is supplemented by a brief description of the site content. |
| Railway Photography by Andy Small |
Some nice photos on this Fotopic site, from a wide range of locations around Britain. Follow the links on Andy's site for many
more Fotopic sites covering classic British diesel and electric locos. |
| Tracks Revisited |
Bob Lumley's Fotopic site deserves special mention. Check out the wonderful night shots of Deltics in the north-east,
plus some lovely shots of 37s around Blyth and in Scotland. An absolute must-see. |
| The White Mask |
Another great Fotopic site. John Hooson's collection includes some fine shots from Scotland and the S&C, but my preference is
for the less often photographed locations in South Wales and Essex - especially the Cwmbargoed branch. |
| Railway photography by Mark Gowing |
Mark is based in South Wales, so there are plenty of pics of 37s on the Rhymneys here, as well as Cardiff-bound specials. |
| Peter Tandy's Railway Photos |
Photos of diesel and electric locomotives, plus multiple units (and even steam now), including many nice shots from the south Midlands
and elsewhere. If it's visited Stratford-on-Avon, Pete probably got the shot. |
| Foto-Rail |
Kevin Smith's website is a mixture of new photos and scans from earlier years. It contains some excellent images of British
locomotives and is regularly updated with new shots from all around the country. |
| Thechair's Railway Phots |
Rich Norris's Fotopic site provides excellent coverage of movements all around the Midlands, with occasional excursions further afield. |
| Railway Photography by Paul Robertson |
Paul's new site was created in early 2006 and contains scans of classic diesel and electric locos. Plenty of action from the East
Midlands, plus some fine shots of 37s in Scotland. |
| Lee's Railway Photos |
Lee Ford's Fotopic site, with shots in the London area and beyond. |
| P4 New Street |
This is Jim Smith-Wright's new (in May 2007) site, detailing his model of Birmingham New St in P4 scale. |
| Fotoditreni.com |
Marco Ruggeri is a train driver for Trenitalia, and his site contains
many fine shots of Italian locos and multiple units. |
| Digital imaging tools |
| DPreview |
Information and reviews of digital cameras and other digital imaging equipment. Everything you could want is here: detailed specifications;
reviews; user comments; forums etc. |
| Neat Image |
A noise removal tool for images. Fantastic for removing grain from scans of 35mm transparencies. I've used it on all such images on this site
and can highly recommend it. |
| Raw Therapee |
RAW processing software for Windows and Linux. This software is free, although the author requests a small donation if you use it. |
| LightZone for Linux |
LightZone is a photo editor which will read RAW files. The Windows and Mac versions are
commercial software for which you have to pay, but the Linux version is free although unsupported by the company. |

Treat yourself to a decent browser. It's free, and simple to download, install and configure. If you've only ever used Internet Explorer
you'll find the "tabbed browsing" feature available in Firefox indispensible. |

If you like Firefox then you'll probably like this free email and newsgroup client too. |

An HTML code editor for Windows, and the best of the free ones I think. |
